HISTORY OF CULPEPPER
After visiting Remington, we visited town of Culpepper located in Virgina USA which was named for Lord Thomas Culpeper, Colonial Governor of Virginia, 1680-83. Camp Henry is the town’s headquarters and main training center; today this is known as Yowell Meadow Park.
During the Civil War (1861-1865), Culpeper was a crossroads for a number of armies marching through central Virginia, with both Union and Confederate forces occupying the town by turn.
MUSEUM
It was a great sight to see the Museum in Culpepper which was established in 1975 by a dedicated group of volunteers and incorporated as ‘The Culpeper Cavalry Museum, Inc.’ in 1977 when it first opened its doors.
The Museum is a nonprofit organization that collects, preserves, interprets, and promotes the history of Culpeper from the Triassic Period 215 million years ago to present-day Culpeper, by engaging diverse audiences and educating visitors using their collections of objects and photographs in exhibits and programs, and to create an increased understanding of the significant historical events that occurred locally and formed the community.
Here are a few photographs of the historical museum.
