Diwali – The Festival of Lights

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most joyous and widely celebrated festivals in India. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. Traditionally associated with Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile, Diwali is celebrated by lighting oil lamps, decorating homes, exchanging sweets, and spreading joy. The festival also marks Goddess Lakshmi’s arrival, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and is a time when families come together in gratitude, love, and prayer. For many, Diwali is not just a festival—it’s an emotion that fills hearts with warmth and homes with light.

Dhanteras – Honoring Tradition and Memory

One day before Diwali, Dhanteras was celebrated in our home, keeping alive the cherished traditions of my late beloved wife, Sardarni Jasbir Kaur Vohra. Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, marks the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. It is considered an auspicious day to buy precious metals like gold and silver, as it signifies prosperity and good fortune. According to tradition, Lord Dhanvantari, the God of Ayurveda, emerged from the ocean carrying a pot of nectar on this day, bringing health and well-being to mankind. In memory of my wife’s deep devotion and love for traditions, the rituals were performed with reverence, ensuring her spirit of faith and grace continues to live within our home.

Diwali Day – A Celebration of Light and Togetherness

On the day of Diwali, celebrations began with heartfelt prayers offered by me, seeking divine blessings for peace, prosperity, and happiness for all. The entire house was beautifully illuminated with lamps and lights, with the kind help of Rabina, whose efforts made every corner glow warmly. The festive spirit was shared with everyone around, as Diwali gifts were distributed to the staff by me, expressing appreciation for their dedication and service. A special moment of joy came when I received a beautiful woollen jacket, lovingly presented to me by Majnu’s children—a thoughtful gesture that deeply touched my heart. This Diwali, surrounded by light, love, and cherished memories, truly reflected the spirit of togetherness and gratitude.
